Frank Robinson hit a homerun and had 3 RBI at Yankee Stadium where the
Memphis Belles beat the Las Vegas Miners by the score of 5 to 0.
 
The game started off with Memphis taking the lead in the first plating
2 runs. After two outs Jimmie Foxx got things going when he drew a
walk.  Albert Belle followed and he drew a walk.  Robinson then
doubled.  The early run support proved sufficient for Tom Glavine(8-9)
and Memphis.  That was all the run support Glavine required.  Las
Vegas was out-hit by Memphis, 9 hits to 4.
 
Pete Alexander(12-9) was hit with the loss.  He pitched 9 innings and
surrendered 9 hits and 5 walks.
 
NEW ORLEANS AT HONOLULU

Shortstop Vern Stephens had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the New Orleans
Pelicans defeated the Honolulu Islanders by a score of 4 to 3 at Shibe
Park.
 
Honolulu surrendered all of the runs New Orleans needed in the 1st
inning when they scored 4 runs on 5 hits.  That early run support was
all that Satchel Paige(14-7) required.  Robin Roberts, after tossing a
perfect ninth, was credited with his 5th save. 
 
Greg Maddux(6-8) was the losing pitcher.  He gave up 4 runs and 11 hits
in 7 innings.
 
DES MOINES AT SASKATOON

Steve Carlton allowed Bobby Cox to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete
game at The Astrodome as the Des Moines Pickers beat the Saskatoon
Commodores by the count of 5 to 3.
 
Des Moines took the lead off Roger Clemens in the first inning scoring
3 runners on 3 hits.  Des Moines and Saskatoon each finished the night
with 7 hits. 
 
Carlton(8-2) finished the game allowing 3 runs in the victory. Clemens
(6-4) was tagged with the loss.  He surrendered 7 hits and 2 walks in
9 innings.

Ed Walsh pitched a complete game as the Anchorage Gold beat the reeling
Cheyenne Gunslingers by a score of 4 to 3.
 
The game was decided in the bottom of the 8th inning.  Barry Bonds drew
a walk.  A balk was called.  After another out, Frank Thomas got his
chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes.  Dick Allen
was up next and he doubled.  Cheyenne tried unsuccessfully to come back
in the 9th.
 
Walsh(13-6) allowed 3 runs on the game. The losing pitcher was Whitey
Ford(9-9).  He pitched 7 innings allowing 7 hits and 2 walks.
 
 
ESCANABA AT ALEXANDRIA

Hank Greenberg hit 2 doubles and had 2 RBI as the Alexandria Dukes
bested the Escanaba Yoopers 6 to 2 at Tiger Stadium.
 
Alexandria took the lead for good in the 6th inning when they came up
with 3 runs on 4 hits.  Alexandria had 13 hits for the afternoon while
Escanaba had 4. 
 
Don Sutton(10-7) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 8 innings.
Ray Brown(6-10) suffered the loss.  With this win, Alexandria has a
division leading 63-39 record.  They have been 4-6 lately.  Escanaba
will hope that this loss is only a 'blip' on their recent 8-2 run -
and not a start of a new trend.
