Jim Bunning struck out 12 batters and Mule Suttles had 3 base hits as
the Saskatoon Commodores defeated the Las Vegas Miners by a score of 7
to 1 at The Astrodome.
 
Bunning(7-9) put on a good performance.  He gave up just 4 hits and 6
walks in 8 and 2/3 innings dropping his ERA from 4.51 to 4.31.  Neither
team was able to score until the 6th inning. 
 
Bullet Joe Rogan(7-13) took the loss.  Walt Alston was asked about the
performance of Bunning, 'He had his good stuff out there tonight.  The
fans really get into it when the strikeouts start mounting up - and
that seems to give him even more adrenalin.'

46,115 fans watched an exciting game at Shibe Park.  The Escanaba
Yoopers topped the Honolulu Islanders by the slimmest of margins, 6 to
5.
 
The game was decided in the 9th inning.  After an out was recorded,
Charlie Gehringer lofted a solo-blast 'downtown'.  Escanaba banged out
11 hits on the night. 
 
The winning pitcher was Bruce Sutter(4-3) who allowed no runs in 2
innings.  Leon Day(2-4) was charged with the loss in relief.  He was
touched for 6 hits and 2 walks in 2 and 1/3 innings. 
 
 
ORLANDO AT BUFFALO

Carl Hubbell came through with a solid 9 innings and Babe Ruth touched
them all and had 3 RBI as the Buffalo Nickels defeated the Orlando Wave
6 to 0 at Crosley Field.
 
Orlando fell behind quickly as the Buffalo offense came through in the
first inning when they came up with 3 runs on 3 hits.  That was all
Hubbell(13-5) needed.  Buffalo rapped out 15 hits for the night. 
 
Kevin Brown(5-16) was given the loss.  Hubbell was obviously very
pleased with his performance in the aftermath of the game, 'It was just
one of those games where everything worked.  My arm felt great, heck, I
could have pitched another two or three innings.  I only hope that I
can do it again next time out!'
