First baseman Mule Suttles blasted 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the Saskatoon
Commodores outscored the Des Moines Pickers 15 to 8.

Suttles was really in 'the zone'. He belted a three-run homer in the 1st
inning, delivered a single in the 2nd inning, clubbed a two-run home run in
the 6th inning and doubled in the 8th inning. Saskatoon lit up the
scoreboard in the 1st inning with 4 runs on 4 hits and the 8th inning which
saw them score 4 runs on 4 hits. The Saskatoon offense poured it on, scoring
in 7 of the 9 innings.

The win went to Red Ruffing(7-8) who allowed 7 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings.
Ruffing got relief help from Hoyt Wilhelm who gained credit for his 20th
save. Curt Schilling(10-14) took the loss. He was touched for 10 hits and 2
walks in 3 innings.

'Ahhh, that victory was surely needed. Man alive, things were getting awfully
grim,' noted Walt Alston. 'Now, we need to string a bunch of wins together
and turn things around!'

Shortstop Martin Dihigo had 3 base hits at Crosley Field as the
Escanaba Yoopers beat the Buffalo Nickels by the count of 5 to 4.

Babe Ruth(15-7) was credited with the win in a less than impressive
performance.  He gave up 4 runs in 7 innings.  Buffalo threatened in
the 9th but their rally came up short.

Ruth got help from Bruce Sutter who earned his 28th save.  Lon Warneke
(3-6) was hit with the loss in relief.  'Fundamentals, fundamentals,
fundamentals' said Joe McCarthy after the game.  'We lost this game
tonight because we didn't follow the instructions every Little Leaguer
hears every day.'

First baseman Mule Suttles blasted 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the
Saskatoon Commodores outscored the Des Moines Pickers 15 to 8.

Suttles was really in 'the zone'.  He belted a three-run homer in the
1st inning, delivered a single in the 2nd inning, clubbed a two-run
home run in the 6th inning and doubled in the 8th inning.  Saskatoon
lit up the scoreboard in the 1st inning with 4 runs on 4 hits and the
8th inning which saw them score 4 runs on 4 hits.  The Saskatoon
offense poured it on, scoring in 7 of the 9 innings.

touched for 10 hits and 2 walks in 3 innings.

'Ahhh, that victory was surely needed.  Man alive, things were getting

Lou Gehrig slammed a homerun and had 3 RBI and Ed Lopat threw a 3 hit

the Honolulu batters.  He gave up just 3 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings
lowering his ERA from 4.43 to 4.16.  Las Vegas rapped out 13 hits for
the afternoon.

Tommy John(12-8) was the losing pitcher.  He gave up 5 runs and 13 hits

2nd inning, smacked a three-run homer in the 4th inning, doubled in the
6th inning, doubled knocking in a run in the 8th inning and hit a
single in the 9th inning.  New Orleans bats were hot in the 4th inning
which saw them plate 6 runs on 5 hits and the 9th inning which saw them
plate 6 runs on 4 hits.  New Orleans dominated offensively as they
scored in 6 different innings.

Jenkins(6-11) lasted until the end allowing 6 runs for the win. Stan

Hank Aaron rocketed 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI and Greg Maddux was able to
finish what he started and was credited with a complete game as the Honolulu
Islanders outscored the Cheyenne Gunslingers 8 to 4.

Aaron enjoyed a big evening at the plate. He banged out a single bringing in
a run in the 1st inning, smashed a two-run homer in the 5th inning and lifted
one out of the park for a two run home run in the 9th inning. Honolulu had
11 hits for the night.

The winning pitcher was Maddux(7-9) who allowed 4 runs for the game. Vida
Blue(9-12) ended up with the loss. He allowed 5 homeruns in 8 and 2/3
innings of work.

'I was in my hotel room the other night, working on my swing and made some
adjustments,' Aaron said. 'I'm always working on it. If they are getting you
out certain ways, you've got to make changes.'
