Second baseman Lou Whitaker hit one over the fence and had 3 RBI and Sandy
Koufax delivered 9 solid innings as the amazing Alexandria Dukes smashed the
overmatched New Orleans Pelicans, 11 to 1.
 
New Orleans was unable to recover after Alexandria went ahead in the bottom of
the 2nd inning scoring one runner.  Alexandria banged out 12 hits on the
afternoon.  
 
The winning pitcher was Koufax(15-10) who allowed 1 run for the game. Carl
Mays(3-6) suffered the loss.  He served up 3 homeruns in his 5 and 2/3
innings.  
 
When questioned about his counterpart after the game, Mays was lavish in his
praise, 'It was obvious very early on that we were going to be in for a long
night.  Koufax brought his 'A' game with him - he had good stuff and was able
to spot it perfectly.  He probably only made one or two bad pitches the
entire game!
