First baseman Mule Suttles blasted 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the Saskatoon
Commodores outscored the Des Moines Pickers 15 to 8.

Suttles was really in 'the zone'. He belted a three-run homer in the 1st
inning, delivered a single in the 2nd inning, clubbed a two-run home run in
the 6th inning and doubled in the 8th inning. Saskatoon lit up the
scoreboard in the 1st inning with 4 runs on 4 hits and the 8th inning which
saw them score 4 runs on 4 hits. The Saskatoon offense poured it on, scoring
in 7 of the 9 innings.

The win went to Red Ruffing(7-8) who allowed 7 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings.
Ruffing got relief help from Hoyt Wilhelm who gained credit for his 20th
save. Curt Schilling(10-14) took the loss. He was touched for 10 hits and 2
walks in 3 innings.

'Ahhh, that victory was surely needed. Man alive, things were getting awfully
grim,' noted Walt Alston. 'Now, we need to string a bunch of wins together
and turn things around!'
