Duke Snider hit one over the fence and had 3 RBI as the Escanaba
Yoopers beat the Saskatoon Commodores by a score of 7 to 4.

Bob Gibson(7-15) delivered a fine performance for Escanaba.  He went
8 innings surrendering 8 hits and 2 walks.  Gibson struckout 9
Saskatoon batters.  Bruce Sutter was perfect in the ninth giving him
his 27th save on the season.

Jim Bunning(8-12) was the loser.  He pitched 7 and 2/3 innings allowing
9 hits and 2 walks.

LAS VEGAS AT ANCHORAGE

Kenny Lofton touched them all and had 2 RBI and Pete Alexander was able
to finish what he started and was credited with a complete game at
Metrodome where the Las Vegas Miners beat the Anchorage Gold 6 to 1.

Anchorage was unable to recover after Las Vegas went ahead in the top
of the 2nd inning when they scored 2 runs on 2 hits.  That was all the
runs Alexander(14-9) needed.  Las Vegas had a total of 10 hits for the
game.

The losing pitcher was Dennis Martinez(7-6).  With this win, Las Vegas
has a 60-62 record.  They have been 7-3 lately.  With the loss,
Anchorage has a record of 6-4 lately, 70-48 overall.

In an entertaining game at Wrigley Field the final score was the Des
Moines Pickers 4, the Buffalo Nickels 1.

Des Moines came up with 3 runs in the 4th inning when they came up with
4 base hits.  Jackie Robinson led off and started the attack as he
lined a single.  Robinson was running on the next pitch and he stole
second.  Arky Vaughan then drew a walk.  Ted Williams was up next and
he rifled a three-run blast. Two outs later Paul Molitor came to bat
and lined a base-hit.  King Kelly kept the inning going and stroked a
single.  Both teams ended up with 8 hits on the night. 

Steve Carlton(10-2) allowed 1 run in 8 and 2/3 innings, and picked up
the victory. Sparky Lyle recorded his 14th save.  Eppa Rixey(9-7) took
the loss.  He gave up 4 runs and 8 hits in 8 innings.

Third baseman Ken Boyer had 2 base hits at Ebbets Field as the New
Orleans Pelicans beat the Orlando Wave in 11 innings 4 to 3.

The score was knotted at 3 after nine innings.  New Orleans came out on
top in the 11th inning.  After two were out Frankie Frisch delivered a
one-base hit.  Tommy McCarthy was next and he reached on an error. 
Dale Murphy then smacked a single to load the bases.  Boyer followed
and he laced a base-knock.  Boyer took second on the throw.  New
Orleans managed 11 hits in their victory. 

The victory was credited to Pud Galvin(12-8) who went 10 innings,
allowing 3 runs. Mel Harder gained credit for his 1st save.  Al
Spalding(6-4) was tagged with the loss in relief.  He was the victim
of a defensive lapse and did not allow an earned run in the game. 

'I struggled a bit out there tonight,' Galvin said, 'but I toughed it
out and we got the win.'

HONOLULU AT CHEYENNE

Hank Aaron cracked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and Warren Spahn completed
the game without help from the bullpen as the Honolulu Islanders
defeated the Cheyenne Gunslingers by the score of 5 to 2 at Forbes
Field.

Aaron was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he
provided much of the offense for the visitors.  He popped a two-run
clout over the fence in the 1st inning and clubbed a solo home run in
the 4th inning.  Cheyenne out-hit Honolulu 9 to 6, but Honolulu ended
up with more runs.

The win went to Spahn(8-15) who allowed 2 runs in the game. Randy
Johnson(6-14) absorbed the loss.  He served up 4 gopher balls in 6 and
2/3 innings. 


MEMPHIS AT ALEXANDRIA

Don Sutton allowed Sparky Anderson to rest his bullpen, tossing a
complete game as the Alexandria Dukes defeated the Memphis Belles in
11 innings by a score of 5 to 3 at Tiger Stadium.

The score was tied at 3 after nine. Alexandria won the game in the 11th
inning.  After an out was recorded, Cool Papa Bell started the attack
as he drew a walk.  Bell swiped second base.  Roy Campanella then
cleared the fences for a two-run home run resulting in an exciting win
for Alexandria and a wild post-game celebration by the home town fans. 
Alexandria finished with 13 hits in the victory. 

Sutton(12-8), allowing 3 runs for the game, picked up the victory. The
loss was charged to Martin Dihigo(2-4) in relief.
