At Forbes Field the Cheyenne Gunslingers broke out of their 5 game losing
streak and easily handled the Honolulu Islanders by the score of 9 to 5.
The Cheyenne fans enjoyed the offense provided by Robin Yount. He lofted a
three-run bomb in the 3rd inning and tripled knocking in a run in the 5th
inning. Cheyenne had 13 hits for the afternoon.
The win went to Vida Blue(8-9) who allowed 4 runs in 7 and 1/3 innings. John
Smoltz got the save, his 1st. The loss was charged to Greg Maddux(6-7). He
got hit pretty hard, allowing 10 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings.
'Wow. That's about all I can think to say.' said Tony La Russa following the
victory. 'If ever a team needed a win, it was us.'
