Al Kaline smacked 2 homeruns and had 7 RBI and Curt Schilling racked up an
impressive total of 15 strikeouts as the Des Moines Pickers man-handled the
Saskatoon Commodores - the final score was 11 to 1.
Kaline really lit it up for Des Moines. The Saskatoon fans let him have it
for what he did to their boys. He lofted a three-run 'big-fly' in the 1st
inning, doubled knocking in a run in the 3rd inning, doubled in the 5th
inning and smacked a three-run homer in the 8th inning. For the game Des
Moines out-hit Saskatoon 13 to 7.
Schilling(7-10) was the winner allowing 1 run in 8 and 1/3 innings. Jim
Bunning(6-9) ended up with the loss. Schilling, when asked about his 15
strikeout performance noted, 'The important thing is that we won, if I get 20
and we lose, what good does it do our team? But, on the other hand, since we
won it feels great!'
