Pete Rose had 3 base hits and Randy Johnson retired 16 batters on strikeouts
at Forbes Field as the Cheyenne Gunslingers beat the New Orleans Pelicans in
11 innings by the count of 4 to 3.
 
The score was tied at 3 after nine. Cheyenne came out the victor in the 11th
inning.  After an out was recorded, Rod Carew drew a walk.  After another
out, Wally Schang stepped in and he drew a walk.  Rose then lined a one-base
hit resulting in an exciting win for Cheyenne and a raucous post-game
celebration by the home town fans.  Overall Cheyenne out-hit New Orleans 10
to 7.  
 
Rollie Fingers(5-7) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 inning. Mel
Harder(3-1) was tagged with the loss in relief.  He surrendered 1 hit and 2
walks in 1 and 1/3 innings.  
 
With this win, Cheyenne has a 38-50 record. They have been 3-7 lately.  With
the loss, the New Orleans ballclub's record is 44-40.
