Right fielder Babe Ruth smashed 3 homeruns and had 5 RBI at Crosley Field
where the Buffalo Nickels beat the Cheyenne Gunslingers 15 to 10.
Ruth was in a groove all day. He popped a two-run clout over the fence in the
1st inning, cleared the fences for a two-run home run in the 2nd inning and
lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the 6th inning. Buffalo bats were very
productive in the 6th inning which saw them plate 6 runs on 6 hits. Even
though they scored in 5 different innings, Cheyenne was not able to pull off
the win.
The victory was credited to Old Hoss Radbourn(1-6) who went 3 and 2/3 innings,
allowing 2 runs. John Smoltz(2-6) was given the loss in relief. He gave up 3
runs in 2 and 2/3 innings of work.
Ruth was jubilant after the game 'Let me see a box-score' he joked, 'I want to
see how that game looks on paper.'
