Sandy Koufax whiffed 11 batters and shortstop Alan Trammell connected with a
'big fly' and had 4 RBI as the Alexandria Dukes smashed the overmatched
Memphis Belles, 17 to 5.
Trammell had a good evening at the plate. He smashed a solo-shot out of the
park in the 1st inning, stroked a one-base hit plating a run in the 5th
inning and slapped a single which was good for two runs in the 5th inning.
Alexandria kept the scorekeepers busy in the 5th inning with 9 runs on 8
hits. Alexandria managed 20 hits in their victory.
Koufax(13-6) lasted until the end allowing 5 runs for the win. Tom
Glavine(7-8) ended up with the loss. His ERA increased from 4.63 to 5.31 as
he allowed 11 runs in 4 innings.
Koufax was jubilant in the hometown clubhouse, 'It was a lot of fun out there.
The fans gave me a lot of support as did my teammates. We got the victory
and I'll sure take 11 strikeouts anytime!'
