Frank Thomas had 2 base hits and 3 RBI at Forbes Field where the Anchorage
Gold beat the Cheyenne Gunslingers by the score of 5 to 1.
 
Cheyenne was unable to climb back into it after Anchorage went ahead for good
in the top of the 4th inning when they tallied 2 runs on 2 hits.  The key
offensive moment was provided by Joe Medwick who silenced the crowd when he
doubled plating two runs.  Anchorage ended up with 9 hits for the game while
Cheyenne had 5.  
 
The win went to Ed Walsh(12-5) who allowed 1 run in 8 and 1/3 innings. Luis
Tiant preserved the game for Walsh, recording his his 16th.  Jack Morris(4-9)
took the loss.  He was knocked around by Anchorage, allowing 9 hits and 6
walks in 6 and 2/3 innings.  
 
Wth the win Anchorage now has a record of a division leading 52-38.  With this
loss, Cheyenne has a 3-7 record of late, 38-53, worst in the division
overall.
