Dick Allen collected 2 extra-base hits as the Anchorage Gold defeated the Des
Moines Pickers in 10 innings 6 to 5 at Metrodome.
The score was tied at 4 after nine. Anchorage was victorious in the 10th
inning. After two outs George Foster was the sparkplug when he slapped a
one-base hit. Allen stepped up next and he tripled. Bill Madlock then
ripped a single. The score went back-and-forth with the lead changing 5
times.
Don Newcombe(4-5) allowed no runs in 2/3 of an inning, and picked up the
victory. Sparky Lyle(6-4) took the loss in relief. He was unable to retire a
batter and surrendered 3 hits and no walks.
