Arky Vaughan cracked 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the Des Moines Pickers bested
the Las Vegas Miners 9 to 6 at Yankee Stadium.
Vaughan had a good day at the plate. He ripped a solo home run in the 1st
inning, lashed a single which scored a run in the 5th inning and cracked a
two-run shot in the 7th inning. Although they lost, Las Vegas did out-hit
Des Moines 14 to 10.
The win went to Nolan Ryan(10-5) who allowed 6 runs in 7 innings. Tom Henke
gained credit for his 2nd save. Ed Lopat(3-8) took the loss. He surrended 4
homeruns in his 7 and 2/3 innings.
Des Moines continued their winnings ways improving their record to a division
leading 44-40. They are 8-2 in their last ten games. Las Vegas has a record
of 40-45 after the loss.
