Pop Lloyd collected 2 extra-base hits as the Saskatoon Commodores
topped the Escanaba Yoopers by a score of 6 to 1 at Baker Bowl.
 
Red Ruffing(1-0) gave Saskatoon a solid outing.  He was reached for 4
hits and no walks in 5 and 1/3 innings dropping his ERA from 6.17 to
4.76.  Saskatoon rapped out 9 hits for the afternoon. 
 
Herb Pennock recorded the save, his 2nd.  The loss was charged to Bob
Gibson(3-9).  The Saskatoon ballclub's record now stands at 29-28. 
With the loss, Escanaba has a record of 3-7 lately, 27-35, worst in the
division overall.
 
LAS VEGAS AT HONOLULU

First baseman Lou Gehrig slammed a homerun and had 3 RBI and Tom Seaver
was able to finish what he started and was credited with a complete
game as the Las Vegas Miners outscored the Honolulu Islanders 11 to 4.
 
The game started off with Las Vegas taking the lead in the first as
they scored 3 runs on 4 base hits.  The key offensive moment was
provided by Gehrig who deflated the spirits of the home town crowd when
he clubbed a two-run home run.  Las Vegas managed 14 hits in their
victory. 
 
The win was credited to Seaver(3-2) who went the whole way allowing 4
runs.  Leon Day(1-3) was the losing pitcher.  He allowed 7 hits and 3
walks in 2 and 2/3 innings. 
 
 
ANCHORAGE AT NEW ORLEANS

Frank Thomas left the yard and had 4 RBI as the Anchorage Gold bested
the New Orleans Pelicans 15 to 7 at Fenway Park.
 
Thomas provided the offensive punch.  He ripped a single scoring a run
in the 2nd inning, launched a three-run homer in the 4th inning and
slapped a one-base hit in the 8th inning.  Anchorage lit up the score-
board in the 4th inning which saw them score 4 runs on 4 hits. 
Offensively, Anchorage was a juggernaut.  They scored in 6 separate
innings. 
 
Big Bill Foster(11-2) allowed 7 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings, and picked
up the victory. Ferguson Jenkins(3-4) absorbed the loss.  By surrending
12 runs in 6 innings his ERA jumped from 4.63 to 5.92. 
 
 
ORLANDO AT CHEYENNE

The Cheyenne Gunslingers and the Orlando Wave locked up in an exciting
one-run game at Forbes Field.  The final score was the Cheyenne
Gunslingers 6, the Orlando Wave 5.
 
Vida Blue(5-7) was solid if not spectacular.  He went 7 and 2/3 innings
and surrended up 9 hits and 2 walks.  Overall Cheyenne out-hit Orlando
13 to 10.
 
Dan Quisenberry earned his 5th save.  Rube Waddell(3-5) suffered the
loss. He was hit hard and gave up 12 hits and 5 walks in 6 and 2/3
innings. 
 
With this win, Cheyenne has a 28-33 record.  They have been 5-5 lately.  With this loss, Orlando has a 4-6 record of late, 25-33, worst in the division overall.
 
MEMPHIS AT DES MOINES

Minnie Minoso hit a homerun and had 4 RBI at Wrigley Field as the
Memphis Belles beat the Des Moines Pickers in 10 innings 10 to 8.
 
The game was deadlocked at 8 after nine full innings.  Finally, Memphis
pulled the game out in the 10th inning.  After an out was recorded,
Frank Robinson initiated the scoring spurt when he drew a walk.  Minoso
next to the plate and he bombed a two-run dinger.  Memphis won despite
being out-hit by Des Moines 14 hits to 11. 
 
Amos Rusie(4-1) was the winner allowing no runs in 2/3 of an inning.
Jesse Haines preserved the game for Rusie, recording his his 1st.  Andy
Cooper(2-1) was charged with the loss in relief. 
 
Ted Williams cracked 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI but despite his efforts,
it wasn't enough to put Des Moines over the top.
 
ALEXANDRIA AT BUFFALO

Don Sutton reeled off a total of 10 strikeouts at Crosley Field where
the Alexandria Dukes beat the Buffalo Nickels by the score of 7 to
2.
 
Sutton(4-6) pitched well for Alexandria in their victory.  He went 8
innings surrendering 6 hits and 4 walks.  Alexandria ended up with 14
hits for the game while Buffalo had 6. 
 
Carl Hubbell(8-4) took the loss.  'He was really impressive tonight,'
Hubbell said of his counterpart.  'Our guys were just swinging at air.'
