Frankie Frisch slammed a homerun and had 3 RBI and Satchel Paige reeled
off a total of 12 strikeouts as the New Orleans Pelicans topped the
Buffalo Nickels by a score of 11 to 3 at Fenway Park.
 
Paige(6-3) gave New Orleans a solid outing.  He surrendered only 4 hits
and 4 walks in 9 innings and allowed 2 gopher balls.  New Orleans
managed 17 hits in their victory. 
 
The loss was charged to Jim Kaat(1-2).  He surrendered 7 runs in 3 and
1/3 innings and saw his ERA increase from 4.08 to 6.43. 
 
When asked about his strikeout total for the game, Paige offered, 'The
fan's really got into it.  It is fun to see them tally up the strikeout
totals up there in the stands.  Fortunately, I kept them busy this
afternoon - of course, it would be all for naught without the 'W'.'

Chuck Klein had 2 base hits at Polo Grounds as the Memphis Belles beat
the Las Vegas Miners by the count of 6 to 3.
 
Memphis started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half
of the first scoring 2 runs.  Robbie Alomar kicked off the action when
he drew a walk.  Klein followed and he doubled, and an error was also
committed.  Joe Dimaggio then would ground out.  Jimmie Foxx was the
next batter, but he struck out.  Memphis had a total of 8 hits for the
game. 
 
Mickey Welch(4-3) got the win allowing 3 runs in 7 and 2/3 innings.
Welch was helped out by Phil Niekro who recorded his 3rd save.  Bert
Blyleven(4-3) took the loss. 
 
 
ESCANABA AT CHEYENNE

The Escanaba Yoopers had very little trouble at Forbes Field downing
the Cheyenne Gunslingers.  The score was 6 to 1.
 
The game started off with Escanaba taking the lead in the first when
they came up with 2 runs on 2 hits.  That early run support was all
that Babe Ruth(6-1) required.  Escanaba ended up with 11 hits for the
game while Cheyenne had 8.
 
Vida Blue(3-5) absorbed the loss.  He allowed 3 homeruns in 9 innings
of work.  Wth the win Escanaba now has a record of 22-20.  With this
loss, Cheyenne has a 4-6 record of late, 21-20 overall.
 
HONOLULU AT ANCHORAGE

Ed Walsh tossed a complete game at Metrodome as the Anchorage Gold beat
the Honolulu Islanders 8 to 1.
 
Walsh(5-1) pitched a solid game.  He went 9 innings surrendering 7 hits
and 3 walks seeing his ERA drop from 3.97 to 3.62.  Anchorage rapped
out 13 hits for the night. 
 
Warren Spahn(2-6) was hit with the loss.  Anchorage knocked him around
a bit, as he gave up 8 runs in 7 and 2/3 innings.
 
ALEXANDRIA AT SASKATOON

Hank Greenberg had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Alexandria Dukes bested
the Saskatoon Commodores in 13 innings 6 to 5 at The Astrodome.
 
The score was knotted at 5 after nine innings.  Finally, Alexandria
prevailed in the 13th inning.  After an out was recorded, Joe Jackson
drew a walk.  Ted Simmons next to the plate and he laced a single. 
Wade Boggs then slapped a base-hit.  Wee Willie Keeler was a strikeout
victim, unable to help out.  Ty Cobb stepped into the box and delivered
a single to load the bases.  Alexandria finished with 14 hits in the
victory. 
 
Tommy Bridges(1-1) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2 and 1/3
innings. Bridges got help from Tug McGraw who earned his 2nd save. 
Early Wynn(0-1) was tagged with the loss in relief.  He allowed 1 run
and 3 hits in 2 and 1/3 innings. 
 
Alexandria now has a record of a division leading 26-15.  Saskatoon has
a record of 18-19 after the loss.
