In a thriller the Las Vegas Miners staged a dramatic comeback over the
Cheyenne Gunslingers winning by a score of 4 to 3 at Yankee Stadium.
 
Las Vegas came up with the deciding runs in the bottom of the 9th inning
scoring 2 runs using 3 hits.  Reggie Jackson led off the inning for Las Vegas
when he delivered a one-base hit.  Gary Carter came to the plate and singled.
Ryne Sandberg then laid down a sacrifice bunt.  Jesse Burkett followed next
and he worked the squeeze play to perfection.  Tris Speaker came up to bat
and was walked intentionally.  Luke Appling kept the inning going and laced a
base-hit.  Las Vegas banged out 10 hits on the night.  
 
The victory went to Rube Marquard(1-2) who went 1 and 1/3 innings, allowing no
runs. Rollie Fingers(4-4) ended up with the loss in relief.  Gene Mauch was
ebullient after the game, 'It's great to win a hard fought game like that.
Our guys just weren't going to be denied.  And did you see the fans - they
were going wild! Yes sir, a very enjoyable win tonight!'
