The Cheyenne Gunslingers pitchers essentially took the day off at Yankee
Stadium as the Las Vegas Miners offense erupted for 12 runs while Bert
Blyleven(5-3), with relief help from Rube Marquard, allowed Cheyenne 4
runs.
In the 4th inning Las Vegas scored 5 runs when they had 4 base hits. The big
moment was provided by Lou Gehrig who electrified Yankee Stadium when he
doubled which was good for two runs. Las Vegas out-hit Cheyenne for the
game, 16 hits to 7.
John Smoltz(1-2) was hit with the loss. He was not very effective,
surrendering 7 runs in 4 innings.
