Babe Ruth blasted 2 homeruns at Crosley Field as the Buffalo Nickels
beat the Escanaba Yoopers 2 to 1.
Buffalo scored 1 run in the decisive 4th inning. After the 4th inning,
neither team was able to score.
The win was credited to Addie Joss(7-4) who went 8 and 2/3 innings
allowing 1 run. Jack Chesbro got the save, his 8th. Ray Brown(5-8) was
given the loss.

Memphis Belles won a dramatic crowd-pleaser over Saskatoon Commodores
at Polo Grounds pulling it out in their last at bats, 5 to 4.
The game was decided in the 9th inning. After two outs Albert Belle
delivered a solo blast giving Memphis the win as 34,085 happy fans
joyfully celebrated. Memphis finished with 10 hits in the victory.
Jesse Haines(1-4) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 inning.
Walter Johnson(6-8) took the loss. He allowed 3 homeruns in 8 and 2/3
innings of work.

In a good matchup it was the Las Vegas Miners 10, the Anchorage Gold 7
at Metrodome.
Dazzy Vance(4-1) pitched good enough to get the victory in relief. He
was reached for 8 hits and 2 walks in 4 innings and served up 2 'big
flies'. Las Vegas and Anchorage each finished the night with 11 hits.
Vance got help from Allie Reynolds who earned his 13th save. The loss
was charged to Kid Nichols(4-4) in relief. He surrendered 3 runs and 4
hits in 1 and 2/3 innings.
HONOLULU AT ORLANDO

Larry Walker cracked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Orlando Wave beat
the Honolulu Islanders in 12 innings by a score of 9 to 8.
The score was tied at 8 after nine. Orlando was victorious in the 12th
inning. Stan Musial drew a walk. Eddie Murray followed and he doubled
giving Orlando the victory as 41,501 happy fans celebrated wildly.
Orlando had 18 hits for the night.
The winning pitcher was Al Spalding(4-0) who allowed no runs in 3
innings. Chief Bender(1-4) was the loser in relief. He allowed 3 hits
and 2 walks in 2 and 1/3 innings.

Ted Williams hit one over the fence and had 3 RBI and Cy Young had a
complete game as the Des Moines Pickers staged a dramatic comeback over
the Cheyenne Gunslingers by a score of 9 to 8 at Wrigley Field.
Des Moines had the game winning rally in the 9th inning plating 3 runs
on 4 hits. Arky Vaughan led off and keyed the rally when he laced a
base-hit. Williams stepped into the batter's box and he slapped a
single. Al Kaline then drew a walk to load the bases. Buck Leonard
followed next and he slapped a one-base hit. Leonard took second on
the throw. After an out was recorded, Molitor came up and he stole
second base. King Kelly kept the rally going and was walked
intentionally to load the bases. John McGraw next to the plate and he
ripped a single. Des Moines totaled 18 hits on the night.
Young(2-8) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 8 runs. Mickey
Lolich(3-3) was hit with the loss in relief. 'What a game!,' Young
said afterward. 'When we won it I almost couldn't believe it!'

Willie Stargell smacked 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI and Pud Galvin was
able to finish what he started and was credited with a complete game as
the New Orleans Pelicans outscored the Alexandria Dukes 9 to 6.
Stargell enjoyed a big evening at the plate. He ripped a solo home run
in the 1st inning and rifled a three-run blast in the 2nd inning. New
Orleans managed 15 hits in their victory.
The victory was credited to Galvin(8-5) who went the distance, allowing
6 runs. Juan Marichal(8-4) was charged with the loss. He surrended 3
homeruns in his 1 and 2/3 innings.
