Ken Griffey Jr had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Anchorage Gold topped the
Cheyenne Gunslingers by a score of 9 to 6 at Forbes Field.
Cheyenne was unable to claim the lead after Anchorage went ahead in the 6th
inning when they tallied 2 runs on 2 hits. The key at-bat was by George
Davis who deflated the spirits of the home town crowd when he popped a
two-run clout over the fence. Cheyenne had a chance in the 9th but they came
up short.
The victory went to Kid Nichols(4-3) who went 8 and 2/3 innings, allowing 6
runs. Nichols got help from Luis Tiant who earned his 12th save. Jack
Morris(4-7) was given the loss. He was knocked around by Anchorage, allowing
11 hits and 4 walks in 7 innings.
