Edgar Martinez knocked 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at The Astrodome as the
Saskatoon Commodores beat the New Orleans Pelicans 12 to 6.
Martinez enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He smacked a three-run
homer in the 1st inning and cracked a solo homerun in the 8th inning.
Saskatoon had 12 hits for the night.
Red Ruffing(2-0) went 7 innings allowing 6 runs for the victory. Hoyt
Wilhelm was credited with his 12th save. Robin Roberts(3-3) was given
the loss in relief.

First baseman Mark McGwire ripped 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at Metrodome
where the Buffalo Nickels beat the Anchorage Gold by the score of 10 to
3.
McGwire had a big evening at the plate. He smashed a bases-empty 'big-
fly' in the 4th inning and lifted one out of the park for a two run
home run in the 5th inning. Anchorage was out-hit by Buffalo, 12 hits
to 8.
The victory went to Carl Hubbell(9-4) who went 6 and 1/3 innings,
allowing 3 runs. The losing pitcher was Big Bill Foster(11-3). He
served up 3 gopher balls in 4 and 1/3 innings.

Bullet Joe Rogan came through with a solid 9 innings as the Las Vegas
Miners defeated the Orlando Wave by the score of 3 to 0 at Ebbets
Field.
Las Vegas took the lead for keeps in the 4th inning scoring one runner
utilizing 3 base hits. Ed Delahanty ripped a one-base hit. After an
out was recorded, Buck Ewing came to bat and slapped a base-hit. After
another out, Ewing took his lead and swiped second. Tris Speaker
stepped in and he was walked intentionally to load the bases. Jesse
Burkett came up to bat and delivered a single. Las Vegas banged out 12
hits on the night.
Rogan(4-8) was credited with the shutout. Gaylord Perry(4-5) suffered
the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 12 hits and 3 walks in 9
innings.
'Our guys just weren't seeing the ball tonight.' Casey Stengal said.
'Rogan simply dominated us.'

Ernie Lombardi cracked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and Three Finger Brown
allowed Bill McKechnie to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game as
the Memphis Belles defeated the Cheyenne Gunslingers 5 to 3 at Polo
Grounds.
Lombardi enjoyed a big evening at the plate. He bombed a two-run
dinger in the 2nd inning and hit a bases-empty home run in the 8th
inning. Cheyenne was set down quietly in the 9th.
The win went to Brown(5-4) who allowed 3 runs in the game. Vida Blue
(5-8) was hit with the loss. He surrended 3 homeruns in his 7 and
2/3 innings.

In a one-sided affiar at Wrigley Field the final score was the Honolulu
Islanders 9, the Des Moines Pickers 3.
The game started off with Honolulu taking the lead in the first with 3
runs on 4 base hits. Hugh Duffy led off the inning for Honolulu when
he doubled. Paul Waner got his turn next, but he was a strikeout
victim. Willie Mays then clubbed a two-run home run. Hank Aaron was
up next and he doubled. Lance Parrish stepped into the box and drew a
walk. Pie Traynor added his contribution to the rally and laced a one-
base hit. Dom Dimaggio next to the plate and he drew a walk to load
the bases. Joe Gordon then grounded into a double play. Honolulu had
14 hits for the night while Des Moines had 8.
Greg Maddux(3-5) got the win allowing 3 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings.
Steve Carlton(5-2) was the losing pitcher. He got hit hard, allowing
14 hits and 8 walks in 9 innings.
With the win Honolulu now has a record of 31-33. With the loss Des
Moines now has a record of 30-31.
