Candy Cummings pitched a complete game at Tiger Stadium as the Alexandria
Dukes won in dramatic fashion coming back to beat the New Orleans Pelicans by
the count of 5 to 4.

Alexandria had the game winning rally in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs on 2
base hits. After an out was recorded, Tony Perez was the sparkplug when he
lined a single. Wee Willie Keeler came next and he drew a walk. One out
later, Fred Clarke stepped up to the plate and he doubled making Alexandria
the winners and sending the 34,767 fans home happy. Alexandria had 15 hits
for the afternoon.

Cummings(5-2) allowed 4 runs on the game. Ferguson Jenkins(3-5) absorbed the
loss. Cummings and Perez were really whooping it up in the clubhouse after
the great come from behind victory. As Sparky Anderson noted, 'A win like
this one can do wonders for a team's attitude.' Everyone shares in the joy -
the fans, the players - even you guys - it's better than winning by a dozen
runs!'
