Don Sutton went the distance as the Alexandria Dukes came back to win one over
Memphis Belles, 4 to 3.

Alexandria had the game winning rally in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs using 2
hits. Fred Clarke led off the inning for Alexandria when he drew a walk.
Clarke got a good lead and stole second. After an out was recorded, Ben
Taylor stepped in and he slapped a base-hit. Roy Campanella was up next and
he was hit by a pitch. Roberto Clemente came up to bat and slapped a single.
Alexandria had only 5 hits for the afternoon.

The winning pitcher was Sutton(6-6) who allowed 3 runs for the game. The loss
was charged to Three Finger Brown(5-5). Sparky Anderson was in great spirits
in his post-game interview. Yet, when asked about his feelings after the
thrilling comeback victory, he volunteered, 'I'll tell you this much - I know
how my counterpart, Bill McKechnie, feels right now - and it's not very good.
It's terrible when you come up on the short end of one of these!'
