The Saskatoon Commodores bested the New Orleans Pelicans in 11 innings
by a 9 to 5 score at The Astrodome.
Both teams had scored 5 runs after nine full innings. Saskatoon was
victorious in the 11th inning. The crucial at-bat was provided by
Roger Bresnahan who came through for the home fans when he cleared the
bases with a Grand Slam homerun. Saskatoon kept the scorekeepers busy
in the 11th inning which saw them score 4 runs on 4 hits. A wild and
woolly affair, this game saw the lead change 5 times.
Hoyt Wilhelm(4-2) got credit for the victory, pitching 3 and 2/3
innings and allowing no runs. Lew Burdette(1-1) absorbed the loss in
relief.

One run was the difference at Metrodome as the Buffalo Nickels defeated
the Anchorage Gold 4 to 3.
Buffalo scored 3 runs in the top of the 4th inning when they had 3 base
hits. Babe Ruth led off and started the rally when he drew a walk.
Mark McGwire stepped up next and he laced a one-base hit. After an out
was recorded, Orlando Cepeda came to the plate and lofted a three-run
bomb. Cesar Cedeno was up next and he ripped a base-hit. Brooks
Robinson stepped into the box and grounded into a double play. Buffalo
had a total of 9 hits for the game.
The victory went to David Cone(2-5) who went 6 innings, allowing 3
runs. Old Hoss Radbourn was credited with his 3rd save. Dwight Gooden
(3-6) was tagged with the loss.
'It wasn't my best outing, but I'll take the win' Cone said.
LAS VEGAS AT ORLANDO

Jesse Burkett had 4 hits as the Las Vegas Miners defeated the Orlando
Wave 5 to 2 at Ebbets Field.
Las Vegas promptly took the lead in their half of the first when they
came up with 2 runs on 3 hits. Las Vegas ended up with 12 hits for the
game while Orlando had 6.
The win was credited to Rube Marquard(2-2) who went 3 and 2/3 innings
allowing no runs. Marquard got relief help from Allie Reynolds who
gained credit for his 9th save. Kevin Brown(3-10) took the loss. He
allowed 8 hits and 2 walks in 3 and 2/3 innings.
CHEYENNE AT MEMPHIS

Catcher Mike Piazza hit one over the fence and had 3 RBI and Mickey
Welch had a complete game at Polo Grounds where the Memphis Belles beat
the Cheyenne Gunslingers 8 to 2.
Welch(8-3) pitched a fine game. He went 9 innings allowing 11 hits and
1 walk. Memphis totaled 10 hits on the afternoon. Randy Johnson(5-8)
was given the loss. He surrended 3 homeruns in his 4 innings.
HONOLULU AT DES MOINES

Curt Schilling allowed Bobby Cox to rest his bullpen, tossing a
complete game as the Des Moines Pickers outscored the Honolulu
Islanders 5 to 2.
Schilling(4-8) earned his pay with a solid performance for Des Moines.
He surrendered 6 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings. Des Moines had 9 hits
for the night.
Warren Spahn(2-9) suffered the loss. He gave up 9 hits and 2 walks in
8 innings.
