Left fielder Ted Williams smashed 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and Curt Schilling
struck out 13 batters as the Des Moines Pickers defeated the Buffalo Nickels
8 to 5 at Crosley Field.

Williams had a big evening at the plate. He cleared the fences for a two-run
home run in the 4th inning, doubled in the 6th inning, lofted a solo-blast
'downtown' in the 7th inning and ripped a base-hit in the 9th inning. Des
Moines managed 10 hits in their victory.

The victory was credited to Schilling(5-10) who went the distance, allowing 5
runs. The loss was charged to Old Hoss Radbourn(0-5).

Schilling was asked about his big strikeout performance, 'Well, it's a little
odd when you rack up these numbers on the road - instead of cheers and a
running tally in the stands, everything gets real still and quiet. Just
strange - but it's nice to be able to take the crowd out of the game.'
