At Crosley Field, the Buffalo fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel.  Eppa
Rixey(7-3) finally bested his Des Moines opposite, Lefty Grove(6-4), by the
score of 1 to 0.
 
Buffalo scored what proved to be the only run of the contest in the 4th
inning.  Des Moines had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.  
 
Rixey got relief help from Jim Kaat who gained credit for his 2nd save.  Grove
was tagged with the loss.  He was pinned with the loss despite not allowing
an earned run in his 8 innings of work.  
 
'Fundamentals, fundamentals, fundamentals' said Bobby Cox after the game.  'We
lost this game today because we didn't follow the instructions every Little
Leaguer hears every day.'
