Bobby Doerr went deep as the Saskatoon Commodores beat the Des Moines
Pickers in 10 innings by a score of 6 to 5.
 
Both teams were tied at 5 runs apiece after nine innings.  Saskatoon
was victorious in the 10th inning.  Ken Singleton drew a walk.  Walt
Alston then called for a steal which was successful.  Doerr got his
chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes.  George Brett
followed and he drew a walk. Bill Dickey dug into the batters box next,
but he struck out.  Tom Henke then fired a sharp breaking ball that
appeared to cross-up the catcher.  In any event, it got by him and was
ruled a passed ball.  The game was a wild affair with the lead changing
hands 5 times. 
 
Roger Clemens(3-1) got the win allowing 5 runs in 9 innings. Early Wynn
gained credit for his 2nd save.  Nolan Ryan(4-3) took the loss.  He
surrendered 6 runs and 11 hits in 9 innings. 
 
 
BUFFALO AT CHEYENNE

Yogi Berra hit a homerun and had 2 RBI as the Buffalo Nickels bested
the Cheyenne Gunslingers 4 to 0 at Forbes Field.
 
Carl Hubbell(5-2) was in control of the game from the outset.  He
surrendered only 4 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings.  Cheyenne was out-hit
by Buffalo, 10 hits to 6. 
 
The loss was charged to Whitey Ford(3-2).  He got hit pretty hard,
allowing 9 hits and 2 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.
 
ESCANABA AT NEW ORLEANS

Babe Adams had an impressive outing at Fenway Park where the New
Orleans Pelicans beat the Escanaba Yoopers 3 to 0.
 
Adams(3-2) was tremendous on the mound for New Orleans.  He allowed
only 4 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings seeing his ERA drop from 3.69 to
3.00.  The Escanaba batters didn't put up a fight in the 9th. 
 
Bob Gibson(2-6) was the loser.  New Orleans now has a record of 17-12. 
With the loss, Escanaba has a record of 6-4 lately, 18-16 overall.
 
ANCHORAGE AT LAS VEGAS

The Anchorage Gold got by the Las Vegas Miners at Yankee Stadium.  The
final score was 5 to 3.
 
Anchorage did all of it's offensive work in the 8th inning scoring
5 runners on 6 hits.  The highlight belonged to Mel Ott who silenced
Yankee Stadium as he delivered a one-base hit bringing home two
baserunners.  Overall Anchorage out-hit Las Vegas 10 to 6. 
 
Dwight Gooden(3-2) went 7 and 1/3 innings allowing 3 runs for the
victory.  Hal Newhouser earned his 1st save.  John Clarkson(0-2)
absorbed the loss in relief.  He pitched 2 innings and surrendered
3 hits and 1 walk.
 
 
ORLANDO AT MEMPHIS

Stan Musial hit one over the fence and had 4 RBI at Polo Grounds as the
Orlando Wave beat the floundering Memphis Belles in 10 innings by the
count of 6 to 5.
 
The score was knotted at 4 after nine innings.  Finally, Orlando pulled
the game out in the 10th inning.  After two were out Oscar Charleston
began the Orlando spurt when he single-handedly provided a rally, as he
belted a solo home run.  Musial stepped into the batter's box and he
laced a base-hit.  Ernie Banks then lashed a single.  Eddie Murray was
up next and he slapped a single.  Murray took second on the throw. 
Orlando had a total of 11 hits for the game. 
 
Jose Mendez(1-0) went 1 and 1/3 innings allowing 1 run for the win.
Martin Dihigo(1-1) was given the loss in relief.  He allowed 1 run and
1 hit in 2/3 of an inning.
 
ALEXANDRIA AT HONOLULU

Right fielder Roberto Clemente had 3 base hits and 2 RBI as the
Alexandria Dukes outscored the Honolulu Islanders 7 to 2.
 
Alexandria took the lead for keeps in the top of the 7th inning when
they scored 3 runs on 4 hits.  Alexandria ended up with 12 hits for the
game while Honolulu had 7. 
 
The victory went to Don Sutton(2-4) who went 6 innings, allowing 1 run.
Tommy John(4-1) was the losing pitcher.  He pitched 6 innings allowing
7 hits and 3 walks.
