Second baseman Jackie Robinson had 3 base hits and 2 RBI as the Des
Moines Pickers defeated the Escanaba Yoopers by a score of 10 to 9 at
Wrigley Field.
 
Andy Cooper(1-0) pitched well in relief and was credited with the
victory.  He allowed only 5 hits and no walks in 5 innings.  Escanaba
threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short. 
 
Sparky Lyle earned the save, his 6th. Jeff Reardon(0-2) absorbed the
loss in relief.  'It was a tough one to lose' said Tommy Lasorda 'We'll
get them next time out.'
 
CHEYENNE AT NEW ORLEANS

First baseman Jeff Bagwell touched them all and had 4 RBI and Satchel
Paige tossed a complete game at Fenway Park as the New Orleans Pelicans
beat the Cheyenne Gunslingers by the count of 9 to 2.
 
Bagwell had a good evening at the plate.  He belted a three-run homer
in the 5th inning and banged out a single plating a run in the 7th
inning.  Both teams ended up with 10 hits on the night. 
 
Paige(4-2) finished the game allowing 2 runs in the victory. Randy
Johnson(2-3) was tagged with the loss.  Despite losing, he struckout
8 New Orleans batters in 4 and 2/3 innings. 
 
 
HONOLULU AT LAS VEGAS

In a good matchup it was the Honolulu Islanders 4, the Las Vegas Miners
1 at Yankee Stadium.
 
Honolulu won the game with a rally in the 8th inning with 3 runs on 3
base hits.  After an out was recorded, Bid McPhee started the rally
when he slapped a one-base hit.  Willie Mays next to the plate and he
lined a base-hit.  Rafael Palmeiro then smacked a three-run homer. 
The game was a scoreless duel until the 6th inning. 
 
Red Faber(2-1) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 and 2/3
innings.  Leon Day preserved the game for Faber, recording his his 3rd.
Bullet Joe Rogan(1-4) ended up with the loss. 
 
 
MEMPHIS AT ORLANDO

Eddie Murray homered and had 3 RBI at Ebbets Field where the Orlando
Wave beat the Memphis Belles by the score of 8 to 2.
 
In the bottom of the 2nd inning Orlando went on top for good when they
tallied 3 runs on 4 hits.  The early run support proved sufficient for
Vic Willis(3-2) and Orlando.  That was all the run support Willis
required.  Orlando had 12 hits for the game and Memphis had 8. 
 
Eddie Plank(2-4) was the losing pitcher.  He surrended 3 homeruns in
his 7 innings.
 
ANCHORAGE AT BUFFALO

First baseman Frank Thomas rocketed 2 homeruns and Jim Palmer allowed
Leo Durocher to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game as the
Anchorage Gold outscored the Buffalo Nickels in 10 innings 4 to 3.
 
Both teams were tied at 3 runs apiece after nine innings.  Anchorage
won the game in the 10th inning.  After two were out Barry Bonds lofted
a solo-blast 'downtown'.  Ken Griffey Jr dug into the batters box next,
but he struck out.  Anchorage banged out 8 hits on the night. 
 
The winning pitcher was Palmer(3-3) who allowed 3 runs for the game.
Bob Feller(0-1) was the loser in relief.  He pitched 2 innings and
surrendered 1 hit and 2 walks.
 
SASKATOON AT ALEXANDRIA

The Saskatoon Commodores defeated the Alexandria Dukes by a score of
6 to 3 at Tiger Stadium.
 
Saskatoon took the lead for keeps in the 7th inning scoring one runner.
Both teams totaled 8 hits on the night. 
 
Walter Johnson(2-2) went 8 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Sandy
Koufax(4-2) suffered the loss.  He surrendered 4 runs and 7 hits in
7 and 2/3 innings.
