Bullet Joe Rogan went 8 solid innings at Yankee Stadium as the Las
Vegas Miners beat the Saskatoon Commodores by the count of 3 to 2.
 
Saskatoon never recovered after Las Vegas took the lead in the 4th
inning plating one baserunner on 2 hits.  Ed Delahanty doubled.  Buck
Ewing stepped up to the plate and he slapped a one-base hit.  Ewing
swiped second base.  Ryne Sandberg stepped in and he drew a walk to
load the bases.  Hughie Jennings came to the plate and worked the
squeeze play to perfection.  Jesse Burkett was a strikeout victim,
unable to help out.  Earl Averill struck out, unable to help the rally.
Saskatoon had a chance in the 9th but they came up short. 
 
Rogan(1-3) got the win allowing no runs in 8 innings. Rogan got relief
help from Allie Reynolds who gained credit for his 3rd save.  Jim
Bunning(0-5) was hit with the loss. 
 
Wth the win Las Vegas now has a record of 9-11. Saskatoon has a record
of 10-10 after the loss.
 
BUFFALO AT ORLANDO

Biz Mackey had 4 hits and 2 RBI and Smokey Joe Williams had a complete
game as the Orlando Wave defeated the Buffalo Nickels by a score of 7
to 6 at Ebbets Field.
 
Williams(1-2) delivered a fine performance for Orlando.  He went 9
innings and surrended up 9 hits and 6 walks.  The Buffalo offense
proved no trouble in the 9th. 
 
Tim Keefe(1-4) absorbed the loss.  He allowed 11 hits and 3 walks in 8
innings.
 
HONOLULU AT ESCANABA

Second baseman Joe Gordon hit one over the fence and had 3 RBI as the
Honolulu Islanders really laid it on the Escanaba Yoopers 17 to 6.
 
Tommy John(3-0) had a steady outing.  He allowed 12 hits and 3 walks in
8 innings.  Honolulu bats were hot in the 3rd inning with 8 runs on 9
hits and the 6th inning which saw them plate 5 runs on 5 hits. Honolulu
had 20 hits for the night while Escanaba had 12. 
 
Bob Gibson(2-3) was charged with the loss.  He gave up 5 runs in 2
innings of work.  With this win, Honolulu has a 10-10 record.  They
have been 7-3 lately.  With the loss, the Escanaba ballclub's record
is 9-11, worst in the division.
 
DES MOINES AT NEW ORLEANS

Curt Schilling delivered 3 solid innings at Fenway Park where the Des
Moines Pickers beat the New Orleans Pelicans by the score of 5 to 3.
 
Tom Henke(2-1) did a nice job in relief and was credited with the win.
He allowed just 3 hits and no walks in 3 innings and struckout 6 New
Orleans batters.  New Orleans made it exciting in the 9th, but they
were unable to push the needed runs across. 
 
Henke was helped out by Dennis Eckersley who recorded his 1st save. 
The loss was charged to Robin Roberts(1-1) in relief. 
 
When questioned about the loss, Bucky Harris said, 'The fans got to see
an exciting game out there tonight.  Unfortunately, we couldn't get it
done this time.  Next time, though, we'll be the clubhouse with all the
smiles.'
 
MEMPHIS AT ANCHORAGE

Jimmie Foxx touched them all and had 3 RBI as the Memphis Belles
defeated the Anchorage Gold 11 to 7 at Metrodome.
 
Memphis scored 5 runs in the decisive top of the 3rd inning with the
help of 6 hits.  That early run support was all that Tom Glavine(2-1)
required.  Memphis finished with 14 hits while Anchorage ended up
with 7. 
 
Jim Palmer(2-2) was the loser.  His ERA ballooned from 3.60 to 5.53 as
he allowed 7 runs in 2 and 2/3 innings.
 
ALEXANDRIA AT CHEYENNE

Christy Mathewson pitched a complete game and Joe Jackson had 4 hits 
and scored 3 times as the Alexandria Dukes bested the Cheyenne Gunslingers 5 to 3 at Forbes Field.
 
Alexandria set the tone of the game in the first inning scoring a
single run.  Alexandria managed 12 hits in their victory. 
 
The win went to Mathewson(5-0) who allowed 3 runs in the game. Jack
Morris(0-2) was tagged with the loss.  He got hit pretty hard, allowing
12 hits and 2 walks in 7 and 1/3 innings. 
 
Alexandria now has a record of 12-8.  With the loss, Cheyenne has a
record of 4-6 lately, 11-9 overall.
