Cristobal Torriente smashed 2 homeruns as the Des Moines Pickers bested the
Escanaba Yoopers 10 to 4 at Wrigley Field.
Torriente enjoyed a big evening at the plate. He doubled which scored a run
in the 3rd inning, cracked a solo homerun in the 5th inning, doubled in the
7th inning and electrified the crowd with a Grand Slam home run in the 8th
inning. For the game Des Moines out-hit Escanaba 14 to 10.
Cy Young(1-6) was the winner allowing 4 runs in 8 and 1/3 innings. The losing
pitcher was Don Drysdale(3-1). He allowed 11 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings.
Torriente said, 'It was just all timing. I had pretty good rhythm at the plate
tonight. You've got to take advantage of mistakes when you can. A couple
pitches were definitely up a little bit - right in my zone.'
