Dick Allen jacked one out of the ballyard and had 4 RBI at Metrodome
where the Anchorage Gold beat the Las Vegas Miners by the score of
11 to 3.
 
Anchorage took the lead for keeps in the 2nd inning plating an isolated
run.  Anchorage had 13 hits overall, while Las Vegas had 9. 
 
The win was credited to Dennis Martinez(2-1) who went 6 and 1/3 innings
allowing 3 runs. Martinez got help from Luis Tiant who earned his 3rd
save.  Bullet Joe Rogan(0-3) suffered the loss. 
 
 
BUFFALO AT SASKATOON

Left fielder Billy Williams cracked a homer as the Buffalo Nickels
outscored the Saskatoon Commodores 4 to 1.
 
Tim Keefe(1-3) pitched well for Buffalo in their victory.  He
surrendered 4 hits and 4 walks in 7 and 1/3 innings.  Buffalo had 12
hits for the afternoon while Saskatoon had 4. 
 
Jack Chesbro preserved the game for Keefe, recording his his 2nd.  Jim
Bunning(0-4) was charged with the loss.  Despite losing, he struckout
12 Buffalo batters in 6 and 2/3 innings. 
 
 
ESCANABA AT DES MOINES

King Kelly had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Des Moines Pickers defeated
the Escanaba Yoopers by the score of 8 to 7 at Wrigley Field.
 
Escanaba was unable to climb back into it after Des Moines went ahead
for good in the 2nd inning when they tallied 2 runs on 3 hits.  Both
teams finished the game with 12 hits. 
 
Curt Schilling(1-3) went 7 and 2/3 innings allowing 7 runs for the
victory.  Schilling got relief help from Sparky Lyle who gained credit
for his 3rd save.  Bob Gibson(2-2) was hit with the loss.  He was hit
hard and gave up 9 hits and 2 walks in 4 and 2/3 innings. 
 
'I didn't have my best stuff but sometimes you just get lucky,'
Schilling said, 'this was one of those times.'
 
ORLANDO AT MEMPHIS

Stan Coveleski went 9 strong innings at Polo Grounds as the Memphis
Belles won in dramatic fashion coming back to beat the Orlando Wave by
the count of 5 to 2.
 
Memphis scored the decisive runs in a big 9th inning when they came up
with 4 runs on 4 hits.  The key offensive moment was provided by Will
Clark who excited the crowd when he clubbed a three-run home run.  The
teams had been locked in a scoreless duel until the 6th inning. 
 
Coveleski(1-2) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 2 runs.
Rube Foster(1-1) was tagged with the loss in relief. 
 
'That was exciting!,' Willard Brown said.  'I would have paid money to
watch this one.'
 
CHEYENNE AT HONOLULU

Hank Aaron homered and had 4 RBI as the Honolulu Islanders topped the
Cheyenne Gunslingers by a score of 6 to 2 at Shibe Park.
 
Hilton Smith(3-0) pitched a fine game.  He went 7 innings allowing 9
hits and no walks.  Honolulu totaled 10 hits on the afternoon.  Chief
Bender was credited with his 2nd save.  Jack Morris(0-1) absorbed the
loss. 
 
 
NEW ORLEANS AT ALEXANDRIA

Christy Mathewson had a complete game at Tiger Stadium as the New
Orleans Pelicans lost a heartbreaker to Alexandria Dukes by the score
of 4 to 3.
 
The game was decided in the 9th inning.  Rusty Staub banged out a
single.  After an out was recorded, Joe Jackson came to bat and slapped
a base-hit.  Ty Cobb then stroked a single making Alexandria the
victors to the delight of the home town faithful.  Alexandria banged
out 14 hits on the afternoon.
 
The win went to Mathewson(4-0) who allowed 3 runs in the game.
Satchel Paige(3-1) was given the loss.  He was knocked around by
Alexandria, allowing 13 hits and 3 walks in 8 and 1/3 innings.
