Javy Lopez blasted a homerun and had 4 RBI as the Buffalo Nickels
clobbered the outmatched Las Vegas Miners, 14 to 4.
Lopez enjoyed a big evening at the plate. He ripped a one-base hit
knocking in a run in the 2nd inning, clubbed a two-run home run in the
6th inning and slapped a single scoring a run in the 9th inning.
Buffalo out-hit Las Vegas for the game, 16 hits to 10.
Eppa Rixey(1-0) went 8 innings allowing 4 runs for the win. Bert
Blyleven(0-1) was the losing pitcher. He surrendered 6 hits and
4 walks in 1 and 2/3 innings.
ORLANDO AT HONOLULU

The Orlando Wave easily topped the Honolulu Islanders; the final score
was 8 to 3.
Rube Foster(1-0) contributed a very nice performance in relief. He was
stingy on the mound, allowing just 3 hits and 2 walks in 5 innings.
Orlando had 14 hits for the night while Honolulu had 6.
Al Spalding earned his 1st save. Greg Maddux(0-2) was given the loss.
He gave up 6 runs and 9 hits in 7 and 1/3 innings.
SASKATOON AT NEW ORLEANS

Pud Galvin had a complete game and catcher Joe Torre slammed a homerun
and had 3 RBI as the smoking-hot New Orleans Pelicans beat the
Saskatoon Commodores by a score of 7 to 1.
Galvin(2-0) pitched well for New Orleans in their victory. He
surrendered 6 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings reducing his ERA from 2.00
to 1.50. New Orleans finished with 10 hits in the victory.
Jim Bunning(0-2) was hit with the loss. New Orleans continued their
winning ways, with their streak now at 8 games and counting.

Jim Palmer tossed a complete game shutout as the Anchorage Gold
outscored the Des Moines Pickers 2 to 0.
Palmer(2-0) contributed a very nicely pitched game. He didn't allow
much, just 4 hits and 5 walks in 9 innings dropping his ERA from 3.24
to 1.56. Both teams finished the game with 4 hits.
The loss was charged to Curt Schilling(0-2). Despite taking the loss,
he whiffed 11 batters in 8 and 2/3 innings.
MEMPHIS AT CHEYENNE

Rollie Fingers performed beautifully in relief at Forbes Field as the
Cheyenne Gunslingers beat the Memphis Belles by the count of 9 to 6.
Dan Quisenberry(2-0) was reasonably effective in relief and got credit
with the victory. He went 1 and 1/3 innings and surrended up 4 hits
and no walks. The Cheyenne offense smacked the Memphis pitching staff
around, scoring in 7 of the 9 innings.
Fingers recorded his 3rd save. Eddie Plank(0-2) was the loser. His
ERA increased from 4.50 to 7.43 as he allowed 7 runs in 5 and 1/3
innings.
ALEXANDRIA AT ESCANABA

Honus Wagner had 2 base hits and Sandy Koufax went 8 and one third
strong innings as the Alexandria Dukes defeated the Escanaba Yoopers
by a score of 5 to 3 at Baker Bowl.
Koufax(2-0) had a strong outing. He allowed only 5 hits and no walks
in 8 and 1/3 innings. Koufax racked up 9 strikeouts. For the game
Alexandria out-hit Escanaba 9 to 6.
Lefty Gomez gained credit for his 1st save. Babe Ruth(1-1) was charged
with the loss. He pitched 9 innings giving up 9 hits and 3 walks.
