Cy Young had a complete game and shortstop Arky Vaughan had 2 base hits as the
Des Moines Pickers defeated the Escanaba Yoopers by the score of 5 to 2 at
Wrigley Field.
 
Des Moines won the game with a rally in the 8th inning scoring 3 runs using 3
hits.  After an out was recorded, Al Kaline kicked off the action when he
doubled.  Jackie Robinson struck out, unable to help the rally.  Paul Molitor
then drew a walk.  Vaughan was up next and he lined a base-hit, and an error
was also committed.  King Kelly came up to bat and drew a walk.  Bullet Joe
Rogan did his part to keep things going and ripped a single.  Des Moines
managed 11 hits in their victory.  
 
Young(3-8) was the winner allowing 2 runs for the game. Catfish Hunter(3-13)
was the loser.  He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 10 hits and 3
walks in 7 and 2/3 innings.
