In a close game it was the Saskatoon Commodores 5, the Des Moines Pickers 3 at
Wrigley Field.

Des Moines never recovered after Saskatoon took the lead in the top of the 3rd
inning plating an isolated run on 3 base hits. Des Moines made it exciting
in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.

The win was credited to Herb Pennock(3-2) who went 5 innings allowing no runs.
Pennock got help from Hoyt Wilhelm who earned his 18th save. Cy Young(3-9)
took the loss. He was touched for 4 homeruns in his 9 innings of work.

'You have to give Des Moines credit, they fought us tough to the end' Walt
Alston said. 'It could have gone either way, but I'm glad we pulled out the
victory.'
